Well, i wanted to phunk up the quills, what can i say?
And now for a long boring explination...
I've avoided doing this for so long because i didn't want Arrow to turn into a generic fanchar with a hairy tuft for quills, but his quill style as an official-looking sega character easilly converts to this scruffed up mess without looking silly. A lot of people seem to use this sort of scruffy anime-like hair stuff on Sonic styled characters to escape from the sharp specifics of official quill styling, but in fact it's just so much more fun to draw~
This started out life as any other doodle on lined paper, but i'd not really drawn anything to the board except a vaugh shape and he was wearing his usual soap-like shoes. I scruffily traced the image several times, adding bits, changing bits and just playing around with it until i got this. And i like this, quite a lot. I've added to the original boot design from my first picture of Arrow in riders styling and the result i'm quite proud of.
His framework has been kept to an elongated riders styling, but not a lot has changed in bodywork from my usual stuff. He's tall and skinny and.. well, yeah. Ya' know. I scuffed up his neck patch a little, his elbows and knees. Check out the kinked tail too! (...it's dang sexy, i always give Shadow a kink in his tail when i draw him scruffeh too XD) This isn't like the new 'official' Arrow. It's just something a little alternative and phunked. Suits Riders style i think... and... stuff, or some other bullshit explination.
And if you hadn't noticed, i rather like the concept of Riders and the styling. The games due out here on Friday, but i've got a lot going on with theme park trips in the next two months so i guess i'll have to wait until it drops in price... which shouldn't be too long, because i know it's gunna flop.
I am intending on finishing this image. But how i'm still contemplating. I'm gunna take it into CG, and i'm thinking some very speedilly done and scruffy lineart, which will be more like a neat stylised sketch, with some quick colours would look quite nice. But i don't want this too look rushed. Any ideas?
